Real Estate Notes from the Wall Street Journal

Two recent articles in the Wall Street Journal give some interesting insights into new homes.

Metrostudy released a report that says the San Diego is one of the strongest markets for new home builders. Fourth quarter 2011 construction numbers are up 46.7% over 3rd quarter numbers. The 3rd quarter had terrible numbers but the reduction in available homes for sale has caused some buyers to move to new construction homes to meet their housing needs.

In a second article it is noted that the size of the average American home is continuing to decrease. This reduction in size has been forecasted for several years. The National Association of Home Builders expects that the average home by 2015 will be 2,152 square feet versus the 2005 home which averaged 2,500 square feet.
