Freddie Mac offers new incentives to buyers of foreclosed homes

This is not part of my home buyer series but I thought this information was important enough to potential buyers that I wanted to share it. If this program would work for you I would encourage you to explore further at the web sites noted below. I would also encourage you to engage a real estate professional to help you navigate this program. As always I would be happy to answer questions or provide more information.

HomeSteps, the real estate sales unit of Freddie Mac, this week launched a nationwide promotion to lure potential buyers of its foreclosure inventory.

The HomeSteps Summer Sales Promotion is offering to cover up to 3.5 percent of a buyer’s closing costs and a $1,200 bonus to selling agents for initial offers received between May 16, 2011 and July 31 and when escrow closes on or before September 30. This offer is good only for homes sold to buyers who plan to live in them.

Some homes might also qualify for a two-year limited home warranty that covers electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, heating and other major systems and appliances. In certain instances, buyers of the Freddie Mac homes can obtain  discounts of up to 30 percent on the purchase of appliances.
